Daffodil Thank You

image
Greetings friends!  Today I have a copic colored card for you.  Its been awhile since I last had my pens out!  Heck the crafty supplies haven't seen much use at all lately!  So much going on in my life!  Let me get the card deets out of the way and then I will catch you up.  First off, this card uses two PTI sets:  Year of the Flowers, Daffodil and Background Basics, Tin Type.  I stamped both in dark chocolate ink.  The base of the flower in white and the base of the card is fine linen.  I cut the flower out using the coordinating die.  I colored it with Y13,Y15,Y17, and Y18.  The stem/leaves are colored with YG23 and YG25.  The sentiment is from Thanks All Ways (I think...).  The washi tape is from WRMemories and the sequins are doodlebug.
RANDOMNESS:  So I've been busy starting a new teaching job at a new school.  I've changed both grades and subjects.  I am now teaching 7th grade ELA/History and an elective focused on merging technology and science and writing.  I am super excited but wow, so much work!  Anyway the workload will definitely be keeping me busy especially when school starts on the 2nd.
Leaving my old school was really hard (but a good decision I think!).  I was there 17 years!  Craziness. My principal retired last year and I decided it was time for a change.  Speaking of that, when she retired I drew her this picture of the front of the school and colored it with my copics.  Its 8.5x11 inches.  I framed it for her.  She loved it!  IMG_0226
I really enjoyed doing it.  Sometimes we get so busy we totally forget to do the things we love.  I love to draw.  Thanks for stopping in today!

Happy Halloween

Its Halloween!  And like Target, Kohls, and Walmart I have already moved on!  I have moved on so far that I am done with Christmas and on to Valentine's day!   Hehe!  Not really my Christmas cards are barely even started.  I made nothing for Halloween this year.  My kid is off track and the other one is in jr. high.   Not even a token offering for the teachers at school.  Ah well.  Here's a love card for you though.  Just patterned paper circles, bling, and a WMS sentiment.  Hope you like!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #111

Hi Friends!  Long time, no write!  Its been busy here the last couple of weeks!  I have a few pictures and stories for you but first I wanted to check in with my take on the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge! You can find all the details for the challenge here.

My 17th wedding anniversary is tomorrow and I needed a little something for the hubby. I used a couple of different sets on this card.  The background is from Heirloom Patterns.  The tree and wee birds are from Teeny Trees.  The heart is from Lil Buddies (I think...), and the sentiments are from Compact Family and Compact Sentiments.  I used a variety of inks from a wide variety of manufactures.  Ribbon from my stash, twine from May Arts.  That's it for the card making portion.  Below is a little update on the goings on around here:

Edit:  Just clarify... the bride below is NOT me.  That is my husband's cousin and we went to her wedding in S. Ca.  You can see us dressed in our wedding finery in the pics following.
We have been in and out of town and all over for the past two weeks.  We were at a wedding in Southern California where my husbands cousin got married.

I cleaned out and reorganized my closet!  Oh it was such a pig stye!  I am too embarrassed to show the before pics!

I recovered all the dining room chairs.  The kids ripped one and of course no matching fabric on hand I had to redo them all.  I do like the way they turned out.

After! So anyway its been busy around here!  My daughter started jr. high this week and my son will be back in school on Monday.  The count down for me has started as well and I have been spending time down at my job getting ready for the new year to start up.  Thanks as always for coming by.  I know its annoying when the posts don't update every day!  I'm going to try to do better!

The Great Faucet Catastrophe!

Hi there friends!  Today I have something a little different.  Instead of a card or box I have my first foray into plumbing.  Something that was suppose to be pretty easy but instead turned out to be CRAZY!  I knew there was a reason to call people for these types of things.
It started because the faucet looked like this.  Yes, it is 1990's brass.  It's hideous.  This is the children's bathroom where I am positive they care nothing about how the faucet looks.  They also care nothing about hanging towels and picking up their clothes.  One day after picking up their towels again (they were not home to be summoned to pick up their own towels) I decided to forgo the (completely beat up hideous brass) towel racks and purchase some new hooks.  Down at the store I realized that brass is so "out" they don't even sell it anymore!  So I purchased brushed nickel hooks.  I installed them and they looked great except the brass now stood out ten times more!  So I thought, "Self, you should just replace that faucet".  Self and I looked it up on Google where we were assured it would be an easy task.   I can't tell you how many websites, youtube videos, and facebook friends told me it would be a piece of cake.  I should have known better, after all I am the queen of the glass is half empty.

So it was off to the Home Depot where I purchased a new brushed nickel faucet and toilet paper holder.  Next I went home and made sure I had all the necessary tools that Google recommended.  I cleaned out from under the sink and contemplated on how exactly I was going to wedge my body in there.
Above is the tiny hole into which I had to squeeze my entire upper body.  I am fairly certain having smaller boobs would have helped immensely here.  Once you have your body in there you block all the light and then you need a lantern.
Above is the original brass toilet paper holder that came with the house when it was built back in 1990.  Charming, no?  Notice how the center is silver.  My husband bought a replacement a few years back and decided it was just easier to add the middle part then replace the whole thing.

I began with the demolition of the old faucet.  I carefully followed Google and You Tubes instructions for the dismantle.  Everything was going swimmingly until I had unbolted every part and the faucet still would not lift out.   Apparently you need to pull kind of hard.   After discovering this tidbit the sink look liked this:
Everything is out.  No more faucet and no more drain.   Getting the drain out was harder then the faucet and I had to draft my 11 year old daughter to help me out.  She is a princess and did not wish to dirty her hands.   To get the drain out you need to remove the trap- the u shaped pipe under the sink- when you do that dirty water will come pouring out.  Hopefully you put a bowl under there.  I did!  But it also got all over my hands and it was sooo gross and smelly.
This is the bag of disgusting faucet parts.  I was using it for trash.  Everything that went in was so grimy and gross.  But at this point I was really happy.  I felt like putting in a faucet was easy and I was contemplating doing even more faucets!  I should have known...

The next step is installing the new stuff.   I got in the new drain and the new faucet fairly easily but as I was going to rehook the supply lines (where the water goes into the faucet) I noticed one line looked different from the other.  One had a little black gasket on it.  The other was plain silver.  This I knew could not be good.  I went looking for the other black gasket and found it wedged into the old faucet.  I tried to dig it out but it just crumbled everywhere.  So I naively thought I would just go buy a new gasket.  Naive....very naive... and this is where the faucet installation takes a turn to the dark side.

At the Home Depot I ask the helpful man where I might find these little gaskets.  I am informed there are no such things.  You must replace the entire supply line.  I have the old kind of lines (I had no idea) and you must remove everything- the line and the angle stop valve it is hooked to.  This will involve shutting off the water to the entire house and getting down there with two wrenches, dismantling the old angle stop and putting in a new one.  Clearly not easy.  Mr. Helpful gave me the parts I needed and then recommended I do both lines.  I told him no, the other isn't broken.  Well let me say this- if the guy at Home Depot says you need two, save a trip and buy two.  Lesson learned.
Above is the bad supply line.  Before attempting faucet replacements check your lines!  Lesson learned!  Whats bad is that the line is integrated into the valve.  The line can not be replaced without the valve being replaced.  Replacing the valve is not easy.

These are good valves.  You can remove just the supply line if needed.  These are the ones I (with tons of help from my husband- umm maybe he actually did it while I held the second wrench) installed.  Notice there are two new ones.  That guy at the Home Depot knew what he was talking about.   Installing these took like three hours.  All the water to the house has to be turned off and our main shut off valve was acting up.  I got sprayed in the face once.  I flooded the bathroom and by the time I was done I looked as if I had gone swimming in my clothes.  And all that was after my hubby graciously decided to help me.   At one point both me and my husband had to stuff our upper bodies into that tiny cabinet.  Go ahead scroll up and look at that tiny cabinet.  Me and my husband... laying belly to belly in those tiny openings.  Did I mention I had gotten him out of bed and he hadn't brushed his teeth yet?  Yeah it doesn't take long to foul up  2 cubic feet of air.    We got the first one done, turned on the water and it sprayed everywhere.  We took it off, reinstalled it and tried again and it held.  I was so happy!  My husband left to go shower (and brush his teeth!!) and I rehooked the old supply line to the other side.  Well wouldn't you know it- we turned on the water again and it sprayed everywhere (it was my third bath under the cabinet!)  Turns out the other gasket also crumbled.  So it was back to the Home Depot for another valve and another line.  We start to replace it and realize I bought the wrong size line.  In my defense all the lines look the same!  So back to the Home Depot again.  They have these little cameras on the self check lanes and what I would give to have my videos from each purchase.  Each time I went in more wet and more pissed off than the time before.  By the end my hair was on end, I smelled of dirty water, and my clothes were dripping.  A pretty picture I was not.  However we did get the last valve and line in, it did not leak.  My husband helped me reassemble the drain- its hard to get it tight enough, you need to really put some muscle behind it.  Below is the finished product:
But uh oh... what do we see here?  Its brass on the bottom of the mirror.... Its like the "If you give a Moose a Muffin..." of bathrooms!  If you replace a hook, you need to replace a faucet.  If you replace a faucet, you need to replace a mirror....  Will I be able to leave the mirror???  I hope so!
At least the TP holder matches!  Please ignore my filthy floor.  I promise I have mopped since then!
THE MORAL:  Check your supply lines before attempting faucet replacements!  And listen to the guy at Home Depot!

Thanks for stopping in!  I have a really cool box of cards that made and I promise that will be the next thing up.  No more crazy home repair for me!

I am back!

Hello friends! Well I am back, for the moment anyway. I have made exactly one card since I came home and this is it. I am still on a high from my awesome 5 days on the east coast. P1070325
This card uses the sun dies from PTI. The papers are from Cosmo Cricket- fairly new. Stamp sets are Fillable frames and Pretty Peonies. I used Simply Chartreuse and Autumn Rose i nk.

Below are a couple of shots from my NYC/Connecticut trip.  I can not even tell you how much fun I had.  It was the best!

Happy Hexagons and Other News

Hello friends! Happy Wednesday! Boy do I love summer! I have been spending the last few days getting to know Photoshop elements through classes from Jessica Sprague. So worth the money (no they are not paying me to say that). I am excited because it went from so frustrating to so cool over the last few days.

Also brought to my attention today was the inability to pin any of my cards. I did not do that on purpose. A few months back I switched over to using Flickr instead of uploading directly to blogger. Apparently the default on Flickr blocks others from sharing your work. I have opened up my permissions, so feel free to pin away. I am always flattered by that.

Ok, on to today's card. This one uses the new happy hexagon stamps from PTI. I have a color scheme of lavender moon, autumn rose, and scarlet jewel (old dye version).  Its weird cause the autumn rose is almost as dark as my old scarlet jewel.  I am not sure what the new scarlet jewel is like.  The sentiment is stamped in Autumn rose as are the floral hexagons.  The gingham are in SJ.  P1070176
Thanks for stopping in today!

Shapes by Design

Good Morning friends!  I hope you are all well this Thursday morning.  I have a couple of cards I made on Tuesday.  I pulled out a really old set from PTI, Shapes by Design.  I think it was designed by Alli Miles.
 P1070163
My first card uses a craft base and a color scheme of dark chocolate, summer sunrise, and orange zest.  Its a little too 70's for me but it was a lot of stamping so I will give it out for the next guy birthday we celebrate.  If I were to do it again I would change the colors.
 P1070165
I like this next one a lot better.  Color scheme of New Leaf, Viridian Green, Dark Chocolate,Golden Harvest and Summer Sunrise.  Shapes by Design stamp set.

I notice I am getting a lot of crafting done now that its summer.  I am also not working this summer for the first time in 5 years.  I miss my little summer jobs- but there wasn't anything to be had this summer.  However more time for relaxing and crafting.  We spent a very enjoyable day yesterday at my daughter's promotion from 6th grade.  One of her friend's parents invited us over for an impromptu BBQ.  It was really fun and its always nice to get to know the parents of her friends. As for today I am off to spin class in a few minutes.  I am completely rusty but its a great workout- for the body and the mind too.  Its good when your muscles are nice and sore.  (Or so I tell myself!)  Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Congrats on Your New Home (Plus Some Extra Rambling by Me)

P1060910
Good Morning!  Day 3 of my spring break and I am a happy girl.  Its 8am and I am still in my pjs.  Truth be told I drove the kids to school in them.  Ack!  I promise I didnt leave the car.  Today I have a card I made with PTI boards and beams.  Its not a set I use often and find it difficult to get a clear stamp of that house but once that is out of the way I love coloring it.  Thats all I have for today.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
PS.  Did you see the Hunger Games?  Did you read the books?  I read them all and then saw the movie yesterday.  I thought they did a pretty good job although I think they let the Katniss character off a little easy in the movie.  She is not nearly as hard as she is in the book.  Loved how they showed the game makers in their little room making the game.  That was really cool.  Thoughts?

Christmas Tags and a Christmas Cat

Hello blog friends! I am back from my whirlwind trip to Oregon for one last goodbye to my grandfather. I have some more tags for you today. Like I said before, I was a tag making machine a few weekends ago.
P1060647
This first tag uses stamps from hero arts and a whole lot of paper piecing. Its way to fussy to mass produce. I made exactly one. The tag die is from PTI.
P1060651
Tag 2 uses an older set from PTI- Take a Bough. Love that set. Can not sell it, even though I think I should sometimes because I have so many Christmas sets. I am a sucker, what can I say. P1060643
Finally I give you my cat Tiger, Santa Cat. He is sitting with my daughter. I don't think he is too pleased at the turn of events. But he was a good sport.

Random!

Hello there blog friends!  Its been a week.  I've done nothing crafty, so I have no crafty pictures.  The past three days I have been sick.  I am not a good patient.  I whine, a lot.  I want my mom.  Mom knows how to make a sick person feel good.  Alas,  my mom lives three hours away so I am on my own.  Lucky for me, I don't have to go to work until tomorrow.  Hoping to be partially recovered by then. So what do I have to show you? Lets start with this:

That's my new nephew.  Isn't he adorable?  We call him baby Z.  That picture was from my husband's 40th birthday.  He is officially old.  LOL... yes, yes, I know 40 isn't old...

Next up we have my kitty, Duncan. He is attention starved. Every time I turn around he is there, begging to be petted. Its a good thing he is so cute.

This is science! We are using some new materials I got donated through Donor's choose. Have you heard of Donor's Choose? They are awesome. There is a link to their website at the top of my sidebar on the right. Check them out, a great way to see your charitable contribution put to good use, right away.
This is my hubby's head. He likes to celebrate Halloween this way. The black was sharpie and it did take a day or two to come completely off! LOL!  Thanks for stopping by today and reading my randomness.  Hoping to get crafty just as soon as I get well.  Have a wonderful week!

For My Drinking Buddies...

Hello blog friends! How is everyone out in blog land today? I have got some serious crafting to do later today after I finally get my chores done. For some reason I am moving slow today. I've got new WMS stamps all over my desk and I want to play with them. First though I need to hit the grocery store, vacuum, and finish the laundry. Enough with the mindless chatter, on to today's cards. P1060551 I don't know about you but I love a good happy hour with my girls. I don't go every Friday or anything, but when we do go its always a really good time!   So I love this little sentiment on the first card!  These stamps are all from My Favorite Things.  I got them at a deep discount from my Local Stamp Store.
P1060552 The main difference between the two cards is the glitter on the glasses. I LOVE glitter. I might go back and put some on the non-glittered card. We are having a big happy hour this Friday so maybe I will actually use these cards. Thanks for stopping by! Have an awesome Sunday.

Ever So Grateful

P1060486
Another acorn card, another example of crappy photography- again my apologies. :) Everything PTI, except for ink and the patterned paper. That paper is from echo park. Speaking of paper- I think I need to take a little trip down to my LSS because I heard they have some new 6x6 pads in. Yeah, I know I need paper like a hole in the head- but when has that ever stopped me before? Also going to look for some more chalk ink while I am there, sure it stains the stamps but it stamps very nicely.
Its my last few days off before the official start of my school year. I am trying to enjoy it. My house (exterior) is getting painted, the kids are off at school, and so far I have spent a lot of time laying around doing not to much! But Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory workdays and on Tuesday we are back in business for the 11-12 school year! Thanks for stopping by!

Long Time...

No write, no stamp, no taking photos. I don't even really have a good excuse. I have been busy getting ready for school to start back up, my kids went back last week as well. Honestly though, I just haven't felt like working on anything. I hate to let my blog sit weeks on end (I hate it when others do that! LOL) but I just dont have anything to contribute right now. Hopefully I will be back at it soon. In the meantime I hope you are enjoying the last of your summer.
P1060381
I made this a month ago. I think it was for a challenge but then I never got around to posting it. All products from PTI.

Stuff

P1060455
Hi Blog friends! Quick check in and card for you today! I have been out of town for the last week because my mom was suffering some health problems. Just got back home last night and I am worn out. But I had some cards that I made before I left and here is one of them. I used a kraft base. I embossed it with a spellbinders rectangle. I added some pp and a square stamped with the bird from Iconic Images. The small medallions and sentiment are from the same set. All products are from PTI.

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!

My little guy, my baby, turns 8 today! Where has the time gone? We had a party yesterday where he ripped it up with all his little buddies. It was fun. We rented a ginormous waterslide. Totally worth the money. It entertained all the boys the whole time, and my daughter too! Here are a few pictures of the boy over the years:

And here he is today: He is 8!
