My 17th wedding anniversary is tomorrow and I needed a little something for the hubby. I used a couple of different sets on this card.  The background is from Heirloom Patterns.  The tree and wee birds are from Teeny Trees.  The heart is from Lil Buddies (I think...), and the sentiments are from Compact Family and Compact Sentiments.  I used a variety of inks from a wide variety of manufactures.  Ribbon from my stash, twine from May Arts.  That's it for the card making portion.  Below is a little update on the goings on around here:

Edit:  Just clarify... the bride below is NOT me.  That is my husband's cousin and we went to her wedding in S. Ca.  You can see us dressed in our wedding finery in the pics following.
We have been in and out of town and all over for the past two weeks.  We were at a wedding in Southern California where my husbands cousin got married.

Both my kids had birthdays and we celebrated with a pool party at the local pool.

I cleaned out and reorganized my closet!  Oh it was such a pig stye!  I am too embarrassed to show the before pics!

I recovered all the dining room chairs.  The kids ripped one and of course no matching fabric on hand I had to redo them all.  I do like the way they turned out.

After! So anyway its been busy around here!  My daughter started jr. high this week and my son will be back in school on Monday.  The count down for me has started as well and I have been spending time down at my job getting ready for the new year to start up.  Thanks as always for coming by.  I know its annoying when the posts don't update every day!  I'm going to try to do better!

Christmas Tags and a Christmas Cat

Hello blog friends! I am back from my whirlwind trip to Oregon for one last goodbye to my grandfather. I have some more tags for you today. Like I said before, I was a tag making machine a few weekends ago.
P1060647
This first tag uses stamps from hero arts and a whole lot of paper piecing. Its way to fussy to mass produce. I made exactly one. The tag die is from PTI.
P1060651
Tag 2 uses an older set from PTI- Take a Bough. Love that set. Can not sell it, even though I think I should sometimes because I have so many Christmas sets. I am a sucker, what can I say. P1060643
Finally I give you my cat Tiger, Santa Cat. He is sitting with my daughter. I don't think he is too pleased at the turn of events. But he was a good sport.

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!

My little guy, my baby, turns 8 today! Where has the time gone? We had a party yesterday where he ripped it up with all his little buddies. It was fun. We rented a ginormous waterslide. Totally worth the money. It entertained all the boys the whole time, and my daughter too! Here are a few pictures of the boy over the years:

And here he is today: He is 8!

Thank You Cherries

Hello there! Its been an exhausting week here. My little boy has been so sick. We spent all Tuesday in the E/R but I guess its just a bad stomach bug. He has missed the whole week of school, poor little guy. Anyway I have many cards but none had been photographed or uploaded or edited- hence the blog silence.
However today is a new day and I have for you a thank you card featuring PTI's fruit fusion. I am a sucker for cherries. These are yellow like my favorite Rainer cherries. Oh they are so tasty. I used a couple different papers- PTI and Cosmo Cricket I think. Buttons are from PTI.

Wedding Time

I think I mentioned that my sister in law (my husband's younger sister) was getting married this weekend. Both my kids were in the wedding along with the groom's niece and nephew who just happen to be the same age and same genders! Isn't that funny? So the big day was yesterday, in Tahoe, California. If you have never been to Tahoe, you should definitely go. Its some beautiful country. I thought I would share a few pictures from the big day.

My two kids, aren't they so cute?

Here they are at the hotel right before the wedding.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

I can't believe she is 9 and starting the 4th grade on Monday!  If ever there was a mini me it is this girl.  Sometimes I look at her and I feel like I am looking at myself.  Of course she does many things much better than I did at that age.  She is also much more kind to her little brother than I ever was!  Currently she is obsessed with American Girls, Hannah Montana,  and Taylor Swift.  We celebrated with a sleepover in which no one slept, including me!  At least I dont have to do another until next year.  Happy birthday baby girl!

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!

This little guy was born six years ago today!  I can hardly believe it, my baby is six!  He was an easy baby and he is a sweet little guy now.
Here he is earlier in the month at his grandfather's house.  He is at that age where these are the only faces we see when the camera comes out.   It cracks me up everytime.
Here is the lego cake.  Not my best effort.  It was so time consuming to make but its done and he is happy so thats what matters!

The Story of Inches

I am going to put the cards aside for today and tell you story about my two kids.  Sometimes, in this day and age, we forget about the process of letting children explore.  When I think of my own childhood, I remember long stretches of time where I was allowed to wander throughout the neighborhood, play in the backyard with my friends, and explore.  Explore without any interference from adults.  No one was choosing my exploring activities.  No one was guiding me along.  I did what wanted, explored what I found interesting.  Children are so curious and it really doesnt take much to get them going.
A few afternoons ago my kids were out in the backyard.  I could see them through the sliding glass door.  They were both squatting on their haunches looking at something underneath the ledge by the door.  I saw my daughter motion to my son to go after something.  My son got up and ran over to the tree and picked up a stick.  He  came back and gave it to my daughter who began poking at something under the door.  I wondered if I should go out there.  But then the phone rang and thank goodness it did.
I kept one eye on the scene outside while I talked with my sister in law.  The kids were in the same position intent on poking the stick at something.  I saw my daughter tell my son something.  He jumped up and ran in the house, grabbed a pair of scissors and went back outside.  Now most parents (myself included) know scissors can lead to very bad things, especially when there is no paper insight.   Alas my sister in law was intent on telling me about the wedding plans, so I kept one eye on the door and continued talking.
Now my son had the stick.  There was something that looked like a big cobweb on the end.  My daughter had the scissors and was trying to cut it open.  They worked and worked and worked, always intent on what they were doing.  After about 10 minutes I hung up with my sister in law. I walked to the back door to see what was going on.  My daughter and son looked at me with faces full of concern.  " We are saving a caterpillar, but its too late," said my daughter.   The moved to the side and showed me the caterpillar on the ground.   He was wriggling but still encased in a fine blanket of webbing.  "We cut off as much as we could," she said.  "Webbing is very tough," said my son.  "I think he will die," said my daughter.   She scooped him up and brought him to me.  He was wrapped in a few layers of spider web.  It was tight around his body.  He could not crawl.  "Help him Mama!" said my son.   We got the tweezers out of my son's pocket knife and began performing a spider web extraction.  It was difficult. Spider webbing is tough!  My husband came over and we worked together to free the caterpillar.  My kids cheered when the last of web came off.  The declared his name was Inches.  We tried to set him free but he was so tired he could barely move.
My daughter put him into a jar with holes and a few leaves.  Inches was to be a pet.  In the end it was clear Inches did not wish to be a pet and my two children debated what to do.  They ended up letting him go in the grass.  Did he live?  I have no idea.   But I do know my kids learned so many lessons that day:
  • Kindness
  • Spider webbing is tough stuff
  • Spiders eat more than flies
  • Not all caterpillars adjust well to captivity
  • A job can sometimes be done if two people work together
  • Persistence can pay off
  • Talking about options can make hard decisions easier

And they learned it all because I had a phone call and I didn't walk out and say,  "Eww get out of the spider webs!  Go play!"  We have to remember sometimes keeping our mouths shut is the best guidance of all.

Kids and Toilets Dont Mix

When I first started this blog, it was because I wanted to comment on the blogs of others. Then I started writing about the trials (and joys) of being a mom and finally I ended up with this crafty blog that occasionally sinks into whining about exercise. Well today I am going back to my roots for this post. Right back to the trials of motherhood, because what happened today needs to be told. What happened today is going provide me with a big laugh someday... but today is not that day. I suspect it will provide most of you with a good laugh though, because these things are always so funny when they happen to someone else.

I had a really rotten day today. Fridays are always tough because I see my hardest classes. I came home from work feeling exhausted and already knowing that I was going to be putting in some hours on Monday, which is my day off. So I was already dragging when I pulled in the driveway. I was also running late for spin class. I had already skipped Wednesdays class due to working late. So I pull into the driveway, brain going a mile a minute, thinking about all that needs to be accomplished. I quickly say hello to the hubby and dd, I run upstairs to put on my sweats and tennies. I open the door to my bedroom and I hear sloshing. I round the corner and there is my son (he is 5), pants around his ankles, plunger in the toilet, water all over the floor, nearing ankle deep. He yells at me to go away. Trust me, I wanted to! So I get him out of there... clean him off, get towels and start drying up the mess, fix the toilet, clean up some-more. I look at the clock and see that its 10 minutes until spin class. I change clothes, tell my husband that I will mop and sanitize the floor later and I take off for class. Now that right there, that would be enough.... but wait there is more.

I get home and I am wiped out. I decide to take a bath before finishing my chores. I have a nice leisurely soak in the tub. I get out, wrap my towel around me and guess what? Yep its sopping wet. From what you ask? Oh my son forgot to mention that he used mine and my husbands bath towels to mop up the first wave of the toilet flood. Nice. Another shower was in order. Hoping your day was better than mine!
